Wentworth Miller had to confess the truth about his sexuality after he was being invited for a festival in
Russia and he did it in a quiet and matured way – in a letter! Given Russia’s current stand on homosexuality, Miller felt uncomfortable and in secured celebrating in same environment where there is the existence of an anti-gay propaganda law – propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations around minors.
As a matured man, the 41 year old actor decided to politely turn down the invitation with a note to the director of the St. Petersburg International Film Festival, Maria Averbakh.
“Thank you for your kind invitation. As someone who has enjoyed visiting Russia in the past and can also claim a degree of Russian ancestry, it would make me happy to say yes. However, as a gay man, I must decline. I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government. The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly.”
He however confirmed that if the case were to change then he would love to visit, “if circumstances improve, I’ll be free to make a different choice.”
Wentworth’s gay note was published on GLAAD website and spokesperson for the group, Wilson Cruz congratulated the actor for his boldness,
“Wentworth‘s bold show of support sends a powerful message to LGBT Russians: you are not alone. As people from across the globe continue to speak out against this horrific law, more celebrities and corporations should follow his courageous lead in openly condemning Russia’s anti-LGBT law.“
Whatever is it is, ladies are still in shock over Miller’s confession and are still to grab every bit of it.
