The travails of commercial motorcycle operators popularly known as “Okada” in the country continues as the Federal Capital Teritory (FCT) Police Command on Saturday in Abuja arrested 60 commercial motorcycle operators for operating within the city centre.
The Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT,
Mr Aderenle Shinaba, who led the operation, said the suspects violated the ban on operating in the metropolis. Shinaba said that 50 of the operators were arrested at Area 1, while 10 were picked up at AYA roundabout in Asokoro.
The commissioner said the raid was part of efforts to rid the city of hoodlums and criminals during the yuletide. He also said that it was part of efforts to ensure a crime-free Christmas and New Year celebrations.
His words: “It is our mandate to ensure that residents of the territory have crime-free Christmas.” The Federal Capital Territory Administration banned commercial motorcyclists from operating in the city centre, limiting them to the satellite towns.
Yahwah ooooo......This os a great idea for okada to be banned because of safety and to reduce crime but What are all this okada riders expected to live on now.....We had better get ready for more wahalah next year!
