All This Bizarre stories will never end!!  A school teacher from Delta State was arrested in Kaduna with a baby she was said to have bought through an arrangement in Zaria, Kaduna State.

A fifty-four-year old teacher Ogochukwu Ikenna has been arrested while trying to transport a new born baby girl she allegedly bought from a private hospital based in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Weekly Trust gathered that the teacher, an indigene of Delta State, was arrested at the popular Television Garage within Kaduna city, while waiting to board an eastern Nigeria-bound bus a few days ago.
Witnesses said passengers and policemen stationed at the garage were attracted to her when the four-day old baby she was carrying was crying profusely and she could not breastfeed her.

It was gathered that the woman, a mother of three, was arrested penultimate Wednesday, four days after the birth of the baby. Her arrest created a scene at the ever-busy motor park as passengers labeled her a “ritualist”, while attempting to lynch her before she was rescued by the police.

“The woman came to the garage on time to book for the night bus. It was while she was waiting for the bus to take off that she was arrested. The baby was crying and she wasn’t breastfeeding her. So, policemen around approached her and when she couldn’t breastfeed the baby in their presence she was taken to police station in Unguwan Television,” a witness told Weekly Trust.

Weekly Trust reliably gathered that the woman after thorough interrogation by the police, confessed that she bought the baby at a Zaria-based private hospital at N150,000.

The teacher, according to a source, booked for the baby last year, but the proprietor of the hospital got one for her when one Blessing John (24) put to bed at the hospital on January 11th, this year.

Weekly Trust gathered that the hospital is famous for children delivery in Zaria city and that the hospital has been in existence for over 10 years.

Her revelation led to the arrest of the proprietor of the hospital, a-60 year old nurse. The teacher told the police that the nurse facilitated the purchase of the baby. The duo, Weekly Trust gathered, have confessed to committing the crime.

The spokesperson of the Kaduna state police command, DSP Aminu Lawan who confirmed the arrests of the teacher and the nurse relayed their confession to Weekly Trust.

He said the baby was born on January11, at the said private hospital in Zaria and that she was sold the following day by her mother.

“The proprietor of the hospital told us that the mother of the baby was accompanied to the hospital by two women while in labour on the 11th of this month. She said they accepted her and that the lady delivered the baby girl safely same day. After delivery, she said the lady told her that she doesn’t want the baby and that she wants to sell her as she doesn’t know who impregnated her.

“The proprietor also told us that she contacted the teacher in Delta State and that she came to Kaduna the following day. The proprietor of the hospital was the intermediary between the baby’s mother and the teacher. She was the one who collected the N150,000 for the girl,” DSP Lawan told Weekly Trust.

After the payment, the police spokesperson said the girl left the hospital and that the teacher too left with the new born baby girl.

On the teacher, DSP Lawan told Weekly Trust that the woman claimed to have bought the baby for her son.

“She told us that she bought the baby in order to make her 30 years old son who is marrying a 45 years old woman happy. She said her son married a woman many years ago but that they are yet to be blessed with a child,” he said.

He said the woman told them that she was introduced to the hospital by a man when she told him that she wanted a baby girl for her son.

He said they have commenced full investigation into the matter and that the two women are now in custody, but that they are yet to arrest the mother of the new born baby girl.
